Geography

Traversing the Soul of the UNESCO Biosphere

The Vézère river here is a winding mirror reflecting the history of the world. On this 30 km stretch, the river is intimate and shaded, lined with silver poplars and deep forests. Despite its length, the current remains Class 1 (easy), making the effort manageable for those who love the “Slow Tourism” philosophy. You will navigate through deep meanders where nature reigns supreme, providing a sanctuary for local birdlife.

History

A Journey Through Time from the 12th Century

Your departure takes place at Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, a jewel of Romanesque architecture. As you paddle downstream, you follow the footsteps of our ancestors, passing the famous Le Moustier cliffs and the La Madeleine troglodyte village. From the seat of your canoe, you see the fortresses that have guarded the valley for millennia, offering a cinematic perspective that only the river can provide.
