The Vézère River winds through its most intimate and verdant section here. On this 23 km journey, you will experience the “wild” side of the river, where deep forests often meet the mineral face of the cliffs. The river remains Class 1 (easy), but its length provides a satisfying physical challenge for active families and nature enthusiasts.
History
Navigating the Strongholds of Mankind
This route offers an unparalleled view of the human history of the Périgord. You will pass directly beneath the Maison Forte de Reignac, the world’s most unusual “cliff castle,” and the medieval troglodyte village of La Madeleine. These sites have watched over the river for centuries and can only be fully appreciated from the perspective of a canoe.

How long should we plan for the 23 km trip from Tursac?
While the paddling time is approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes, we recommend planning for a full day (5 to 6 hours) to include lunch breaks, swimming, and photo stops at the castles.
Can we start the 23 km trip in the afternoon
Due to the length of the journey, we only offer morning departures for this route. This ensures you have plenty of time to enjoy the river and return before our final shuttle at the end of the day.
Is there a safe place for our car at the base?
Yes. Your journey starts at our base in Le Bugue (Les Courrèges) where you can park in our secure, shaded parking. We then take you by shuttle to Tursac, allowing you to paddle back directly to your vehicle.
