Canoe Trip: Les Eyzies ➔ Les Courrèges
Route Profile & Difficulty:
Difficulty: Moderate / Cultural focus.
Experience Category: Grand Panoramas, Confluence Discovery, Long-distance Scenic Route, Valley of Mankind.
A majestic journey through the cradle of humanity
Embark on the most iconic route of the “Valley of Man”. This 14 km circuit immerses you in a vertical landscape where limestone cliffs sheltered our ancestors for millennia. A total immersion in sport, nature, and history.

Geography
Navigating the Giant Cliffs
The Vézère river winds here through its most spectacular section. On this 14 km stretch, the valley tightens, revealing towering limestone walls honeycombed with natural shelters and caves. The waters remain calm and accessible, offering a shaded and intimate navigation where the forest regularly meets the mineral face of the cliffs.
History
Paddling through 400,000 Years of Heritage
Starting from Les Eyzies, you are at the epicenter of European Prehistory. From your canoe, you will observe the rock shelters that were home to the first Cro-Magnon men. You will pass beneath the same horizons that witnessed the birth of parietal art, following an ancient river route that has linked human settlements for thousands of years in this UNESCO-protected sanctuary.
Interests
An Unbeatable Mix of Nature and Culture
The primary interest of this route is its visual density. Every bend reveals a new archaeological site or a breathtaking geological formation like the Roc de l’Agranel. This is “Slow Tourism” at its finest: you advance at your own pace, away from the crowds, in a silent world where only the flight of a kingfisher or a heron might distract you from the prehistoric grandeur surrounding you.
