Geography

The Luminous Expanse of the UNESCO Biosphere

The Dordogne river in its Perigordian section is famous for its width and the clarity of its waters. Navigating from Siorac allows you to appreciate the large pebble banks and the open sky. Unlike the intimate Vézère, the Dordogne offers a feeling of total freedom. The current is steady and rhythmic (Class 1), making it very easy to navigate while observing the local biodiversity.

History

Following the Path of the River Navigators

This valley is a witness to the glorious era of river trade. By paddling towards Bac de Sors, you follow the ancient route of the “Gabarres,” the traditional flat-bottomed boats that transported local goods for centuries. The arrival point at Bac de Sors is a historical landmark, situated in the meander of Alles-sur-Dordogne, where life once revolved around the river crossings and the majestic white cliffs.
